EPO Tops in the Patent Quality & Services List

For patent quality and services the European Patent Office has been rated top among the world’s five largest patent office’s such as  EPO, Japan Patent Office (JPO), Korean Patent Office (KIPO), the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the State Intellectual Property Office, China (SIPO) reported  by the Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) magazine.

Intellectual Asset Management magazine readers were divided into three categories like corporate IP managers, executives working for non-practicing entities (NPEs) and private practice lawyers and attorneys. All three categories of IAM magazine readers rated the quality and service of EPO is the best among the five patent office’s like they observed. They provided the response with 92% of NPEs, 94% of private practitioners and 92% of corporate respondents regarding quality of patents issued by the EPO as “excellent”, “very good” or “good”.

EPO President Benoît Battistelli said that their commitment to quality and efficiency remains absolute. They are aiming the improvement of quality every year with an update of existing ISO 9001 certification for patent granting process.

It is also the first time that EPO ever publish a comprehensive quality report that contains measures that are taken to reinforce and quality improvements further throughout the patent granting process. This report will be published later by this month and also will make publicly available via the EPO’s website.
