WIPO Re: Search: New Plan to Fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases, Malaria and TB

WIPO Re Search has started a new five year strategy to manage its activities in the fight against neglected tropical diseases, malaria and tuberculosis. The new plan was published during WIPO Re Search’s biennial meeting on May 23, 2017, in Geneva.

In 2011, the WIPO and its partner BIO Ventures for Global Health (BVGH) established the plan to improve the use of intellectual property in catalyzing innovation and product development for ailments affecting more than 1 billion people.

WIPO Re Search allows organizations to share their intellectual property, compounds, expertise, facilities and know-how royalty-free with qualified researchers worldwide.

WIPO Director General Francis Gurry said that the Neglected tropical diseases, malaria, and tuberculosis are severe conditions that disproportionately affect the poorest and most disadvantaged among us and also he said IP is a powerful tool to encourage innovation and the new plan supports the advancement in global health research.

The president of BVGH Jennifer Dent said that they will provide enhanced support to the product development collaborations with WIPO Re Search.
