Indian Patent office rejects Tencent’s patent application for online ads.

Chinese Tencent Technology filed the patent application for its online advertisement resources searching method and apparatus in Indian patent office, India on 2009. The patent application provides a method and apparatus that increases the chances of finding an online advertisement resource.

Tencent is one of the world’s largest internet companies which hold instant messenger platforms QQ and We Chat. There are many types of online ads such as text linkages, flag advertisements and videos, and an online advertisement resource refers to a location for exhibiting an advertisement on a website or instant messaging software.

Patent Office raised objections for patent application and the company submitted its argument against the objections. Finally, The Assistant Controller of Patents and Designs, terminated the patent application because mere software application invention claims are non-patentable.
