EPO issued a policy for latest trend in climate change mitigation technologies (CCMTs) on 3rd JULY 2017. The objective of this policy is based on the most recent data sources, to encourage an informed debate on climate change mitigation technologies with findings. CCMT patents are growing globally, with the figure doubling in the past 20 years to over 75,000. The statistics report also showed that the number of “high value” CCMT patents had trebled to 16,000 since 1995.
EPO signed with the International Renewable Energy Agency and the findings are also published in their co-operation. They both will work together to develop further evidence-based research on the innovation and dissemination of renewable energy technologies.
EPO president Benoît Battistelli said that the innovation in the renewable energy technologies sector has contributed to dramatic cost reductions and rapid technology deployment by support of patents. And also he said that they promote the use of patent information to enhance structural transparency regarding climate change mitigation technologies by using this policy.
